Preliminary remarks:
In the results of our IVF centre, we present the probability of births per embryo transfer and not – as is common – the so-called pregnancy rate per embryo transfer (this figure frequently also includes miscarried pregnancies).
The birth rate per embryo transfer is linked to the age of the woman treated, as the treatment prospects change significantly with the age of the woman.
There is also a direct connection between the prospects of childbirth and the quality of the development of the transferred embryos:
The best results are achieved with the transfer of the embryos which have developed the most after five days - the so-called blastocysts.
As there are not two blastocysts (or even any blastocysts at all) available for every embryo transfer, however, as an embryo does not always develop into a blastocyst outside the body, the prospect of childbirth for all embryo transfers (irrespective of the level of development of the transferred embryos) is presented. The prospect of childbirth from an embryo which has not developed into a blastocyst after five days is lower, but not non-existent!
We also present the rates of twin pregnancies after an embryo transfer, also depending on the quality of development of the embryos.
